Leonardo da Vinci was born on April 15, 1452. He is said to be one of the greatest artists of all times. It is said that his father could see Leonardo had an artistic talent and in 1469 he sent him to Florence to learn painting. Leonardo was said to have had an innate curiosity about the natural world and this made him become an expert in art and many other disciplines. One of Leonardo's greatest contributions was the study of the human body. At that time it was believed that anatomy was a tool for drawing, but Leonardo was interested in how the human body worked. Church was said to have had a negative attitude towards the dissection of corpses, but it is believed that Leonardo dissected over thirty bodies to study anatomy. From his studies he was able to make a model of the human heart, brain and eye. Leonardo was said to have an interest in 'all things'. Biology, anatomy and engineering are part of his paintings. Leonardo is said to be a complete Renaissance man.
