Text: Easy Questions

Quizmaster – Good evening, friends. Welcome to another edition of Easy Questions. Tonight we've got another wonderful contestant and fantastic prizes. As you know, if he answers the questions correctly, he will take home some fantastic prizes like the ones you can see on the counter: a hand blender, a squeezer, an automatic filter coffee maker and many more. If he doesn't answer the questions correctly, he will not take home these prizes, but we will give him an envelope containing 50 dollars. Let's meet our contestant.Good evening, sir. What is your name, please?
Contestant – Mr. Cock.
Quizmaster – If you stand a little nearer the microphone, the viewers will hear you better. Now, your first question is:
– Will you feel ill if you eat a lot of chocolate?
Contestant – What camera should I look at?
Quizmaster – If you look at the camera with a red light on, the viewers will see you better.
Do you know the right answer?
Contestant – It's not so difficult. But if I answer it wrong, I'll take the 50 dollars, won't I?
So, I prefer the 50 dollars. The answer is no.

Uses
• The first conditional is used:

to talk about situations which are true or may become true. We use will in the main clause to say something is almost certain to happen. When we are not completely certain, we can use a modal in the main clause. We use a present tense both in the if-clause and the main clause to talk about general and scientific facts. When we want to talk about a future possibility in a very polite way, we can use should in the if-clause instead of a present tense. In formal English we can omit if when it is used with should and invert the subject and the verb. We can also express a condition by means of unless (if not), as long as or provided / providing (that), which mean but only if, etc.
